About
I find the rule nobody wrote down, then build the thing that carries it.
Sixteen years of it: a private-wealth platform where “empty” meant five different things to five teams, an accessibility regulation that set a deadline but supplied no method, an order process that lived inside a Messenger thread. I do the structural work, and I ship the front end that carries it.
I'm a senior product designer at Avaloq, working on the interfaces private bankers and wealth managers use to run other people's money — the kind of system where a mislabelled field is not a papercut but a liability. Before that, five and a half years at Accenture's Liquid Studio, designing enterprise products for regulated clients.
I also build physical things end to end. As co-founder of SariSari Snaps, I took a rough 3D-printed prototype into a nine-format parametric photo-frame family through print failures, fit tests, colour elimination, and constrained personalisation. R. Garcia leads the company as President and Creative Director; my own card reads Vice President, New Product Development, which is what Steve Jobs' card said in 1979 and, at a company this size, is a joke we both enjoy.
I also build what I design. On the storefront that sells those frames I owned the interaction design, the interface system, its states, and the front-end implementation. Its preview encodes the same parametric rule the frame is manufactured from, so the geometry on screen is the object's rather than an approximation of it. That is a case study of its own.
The video-game-UI instinct and the enterprise career are not two people. Both are about the same problem: dense information, live state, real consequence, and a reader who has one second to understand it. A holdings table rendering a null value and a HUD reporting fuel state are the same design problem wearing different clothes.
So I lead with the work, not the résumé. The years and the titles are evidence of scale and consequence — they belong inside the case studies, where you can see what they actually bought. Up front, the only question worth answering is whether I can make it. Look around; that's the argument.
Sixteen years in practice. NN/g Certified UX Expert (#1046866). The work has run across regulated and high-stakes domains — private banking and wealth management, pharmaceutical and clinical systems, energy and industrial operations, and public-sector health. One recurring role: getting many stakeholders to agree on a single deterministic rule, then carrying it all the way into what ships.
A career highlight from the public record: TESSA, a conversational career coach built with Plan International Philippines to help young Filipino jobseekers. Its outcome data belongs to Plan International and isn't mine to publish — so the public evidence I can offer is that I was invited to teach the work: Developing Design-Led Virtual Agents for People (DevCon, Feb 2019) and Leadership through Design (Nov 2019), both on the MiniFFC record (opens in a new tab) .
If you're hiring for senior product or UX work, design-and-build, or retail design — or you just want to know how one of these was made — djoaniel@gmail.com (opens your email app) reaches me directly. The most useful thing to put in it is the role and one problem you'd want solved in the first ninety days; I'll reply with how I'd approach it. If you need something forwardable instead, the résumé is two pages and covers the same ground this page argues.
